Conversion Complete
My truck needed a recharge of R12, so, instead of paying big bucks, I bought a R134a conversion kit. A pound of that is only $4.00, that I can afford once every two months. Well, anyway, I bought the whole kit for $39.00 at K-Mart. Took me about 30 minutes to get everything hooked up and drained. It works great! A lot better than my high expectations! It blows really cool air. I reccommend it to anyone who's thought about it....
It was easy! First, I bought the kit on sale at K-Mart. In the kit were 3 1lb cans of R-134a, a connector hose, a can of lubricant, and connectors. The manual says to have any remaining R-12 drained by a professional. Anyways, lifted the hood, foud the low pressure side, that's where all the connecting is done. You have to take out the needle in the valve in order to connect the new fitting. That was easy. Next, you have to turn your truck on, and turn the AC to max. Then, you connect a can of R-134a to the low pressure side and drain it in, allowing it to cycle. Then, the 2nd can. Next comes the lubricant, the the final can. I also bought a can of stopleak and dumped that in, and a can of Super Cool.
I forgot to add that the hose that was included was missing a seal, and I didn't notice, so when I put the first can on, it sprayed everywhere. I'll put some pictures on from my camera in a couple of days, it was fairly easy. Right now it's time for bed, I have a camping trip to go on, so I won't be on until at least the 18th, hope I helped some....
