i think the FIPK's do get fresh air..the front of mine has bugs all over it and i dont think they are coming up through the botom of the truck..fresh air is always going to be going through the truck when its moving so i think that offsets the hot engine air..
But just my .02 cents..dont get mad at me

Thumbs up

NOT mad here ...Another opinion is always welcome. Some systems(or Brands) vary and your right about the air moving through. I'm greedy and just want gobs of fresh air directly fed to the throttle bores, like a ram air system. That is probably my last mod. to do. Some offer that ram air kit for the Mustangs that I want to look at for my truck....So much to do!!

I just installed a FIPK from K&N on my 94 302 w/ mass air. I wondered the same thing about breathing in all that hot air from under the hood. The factory air case is two pieces. The top piece that holds the filter is replaced with the big K&N cone filter. The bottom factory piece attaches to a snorkle that points out toward the front grill and is left in place. The result is that the bottom factory piece still directs some outside air to the new FIPK. How efficient this is I couldn't say.
