Towing...
Does anyone know how much a 1990 F-150 4x4 302 with 4.10ls gears and AOD can tow? I was trying to figure it out, but I couldn't make much sense of the owner's manual. As it stands, I do have cat-back exhaust (flowmasters with the dual mandrel-bent pipes), shorty headers, and a K&N filter, so I'm sure that might help a tad in towing. It runs pretty healthy. Unlike some of the other trucks I've read about on here, it has no problems accelerating or getting up to 90mph in OD. So a relatively healthy 302, with the above mentioned specs., on average what are its towing capabilities? Thanks in advance.
With the 4.10 gears you should have no trouble with 5000lbs and probably up to 7,000lbs. This is assuming you have the stock tires (P235's). If you have bigger tires, this cuts in a bit. I am planning a gear swap up to 3.73.

Ford says my '91 4x2 with AOD and 3.55 will pull 3500 pounds. To pull more than 3500 pounds, I "have to have" the high-capacity radiator (which I'm adding) and the "handling package" which only consists of stabilizer bars and heavy duty shocks... which I can add.
I don't see why Ford rates the truck so low without this equipment... I can add the same stuff and pull the rated 7300 pounds...
Of course, I wouldn't want to pull anywhere NEAR that with this doggy 302. It struggles pulling an empty 2500 pound horse trailer!
WEAK WEAK WEAK!!
