Cool gear ratios

Hello: I have a 1996 F-150 4 x 2, 5 speed manual transmission.

My question is : what is the engine RPM when driving the highway in overdrive 5th gear at 60 mph? I have 3.08 rear end.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

My guess is you don't have a tach. I have a 93 with a 302/e40d and 3.55ls gears. I run at 1800rpm@70mph. I would guess you would run somewhere between 1500-1800 at 70mph. And I would guess you would run at 1400-1700 at 60mph?

Assuming you have 235/75-15 tires, and a 0.80 OD ratio, you're turning about 1775 RPM at 60. Makes ya want to run right out and buy a 3.55 don't it?

Thank you for the information. I do not have a tach in my truck.

So if I am running about 1500 aprox rpm at 60 mph, in 5th gear, then this engine is just loafing - right?

Thanks for the information.

It should just above idling. Which is good for mileage. But bad for hills.
