Unhappy LOUD DASHBOARD NOISES

I have a '92 F-150 that emits a starteling "SNAP/POP/CRACK" from the dash board when the plastic expands/contracts, especially in cold weather. The noise is so loud at times, it sounds like a rock hitting the windshield and scares the "H" out of me and my passenger. I contacted local Ford Dealers/service departments, including the Manufacturer via. "Owners Connection". No one else has reported this problem. My wife & I are getting use to the noise. But when I get a new passenger, they think someone is throwing rocks or shooting at us. AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM? I like my '92 and won't get rid of it. I just want to know if I have one of a kind. Comments welcome!

I have a 93 F150 Reg cab that makes a the same sounds you described in cold weather, when the cab starts warming up. It's never sounded as loud as you described, but I'll get a pop or two when it's warming up. Been doin it for years.
I live in Philly, so maybe I'm just used to "gunshot" sounds <LOL>.

My 1993 has the same noise, when its still fairly cold, sounds like something hit the windshield really hard?

Yep, I've got the same loud cracking in my '92. It's definately loud enough to startle me and especially passengers. I guess nobody has figured out how to fix it.

Thank god I wasn't the only one, I just got my truck last week, and going down the freeway at night, every few minutes *BANG* the windshield sounds like a rock slammed into it and I look for a rock hole, scared the b-jesus outta me the first time it happened....

wow! I have not had this noise with my 92, but it does rattle and you can move the whole unit if you push with your hands. I have found that is caused by weak/broken dash mounts, and I wonder if it is related to your problems?
