Post K&N FIPK Disappointment

Hey guys... I got my K&N FIPK kit for my 1995 302 F-150 with mass air. I paid nearly $200 for it, and for what? An air filter and a few nuts and bolts? $200 dollars. I expected at least a new tube between the throttle body and the filter. After the install, I notice a nice growl, and a small improvement. I guess I'm not mad about the kit, or what it gained, but I'm not to happy with paying $200 for something that could have been priced $75. Anyone else care to share stories???

They claim 19% more horsepower and mpg over a stock setup. Guess you didn't get the full 19%? Thanks for the notice. I was thinking of getting one down the road.

Should've shopped around. This outfit here, http://www.gocoastal.com sells 'em for $122.13. I've done business with 'em and can vouch that they're a good outfit. If you still can, I'd send back the $200 FIPK and reorder from Coastal.

I realized that I payed a little much for it now, as I did buy it from a small local shop, but I do believe in supporting your local shop, as they will be there to help you out when you really need it. Even for the $120 you guys are paying, it is simply not there. What you receive in the kit is a neck that bolts onto your mass air sensor, a bracket to hold your temp sensor, two brackets to support the filter, a hose clamp, and a giant filter element. The filter element is huge, but this kit does not include nearly $120 worth of parts. After a little evaluation, the filter does give performance gains, but I don't believe enough to justify the $120. This filter might shine however, with a larger throttle body and massair sensor install. Under hard accerlation it gives a lot more growl, and definetly peps the truck up some, but again, I could think of better things to do with $120.

One thing that I had thought, was that this unit would also replace the hose between the throttle body and massair sensor, which it does not. Does anyone know of a tube sold that replaces that hose with something a little more sturdy and attractive?

Jason,
I ordered one last week from California Concepts for $121. I've been hesitating on spending even that much for the same reasons you stated, a filter and a bracket? I just hope there's some noticeable inprovement in either performance or MPG.

I think it was WELL worth it. Mine was a Christmas gift, but I still can't believe the difference. In my truck, the difference between the stock air box and the FIPK was like the difference with the A/C on and with it off. BIG improvement.

Take care,
~Chris

I am happy with mine also. I picked it up for about $120. Considering a plain old drop in is around $40 I guess $120 isn't that bad. Keep in mind the computer has to adjust before you will see any difference. On my truck this was about 40 miles. Of all my mods I think this helped the most.
