Cool I would like to get more power out of 300.

Does any one know where to get performance parts for a 300 CID I6. I think I have 174 HP right now and would like 210-240. I do not want to put in a power chip because I don't want to buy the gas. I would like to keep the gas milage at no lower than 14-16 mpg. I have about 20 mpg now. So far I have put on a K&N air filter kit and put in a Jacobs ingnition. Both helped the mpg, hp and I can't forget Torq.

Remember, this is supposed to be a low revving, high torque engine. About all I would do additionally would be to add a cat back exhaust and 3.55:1 rear end gears if you don't already have them.

they've got headers, cams, valvetrain parts, intake manifolds, carbs, rods, pistons and lots of other stuff. If you live in a EPA check area, you're probably SOL because little or none of it is smog-legal.

Without doing a chip your kinda limited. In addition to what StrangeRanger and Ford man says, I would put larger spark plug wires, and side gapped sparkplugs, when you did your ignition, did you put in a different coil? If not, do that, and you might get a power pulley. 210hp is going to be really hard to get without a chip.

This particular year already offers a good header setup and fuel injection, so I'd leave those things alone. I think the factory cam would be just right for a daily driven street vehicle.

Where did you get your number of 174 hp? It is my understanding that this engine, this model year, put out about 145-155 HP. The K&N FIPK will get about 5-8 HP, and I'm not sure about the Jacobs ignition. I personally am not sold on Jacobs products, but that's another topic all together! I am guessing that my set up is putting out about 180-190 HP and around 300 ft. lbs. torque. Something that is not mentioned around here a lot is the use of electric fans, may get another 5 HP or so. So, my recommendation would be cat back exhaust, coil and wires, and I would say, do the chip. If you don't want to pay for the gas, pull the chip when you don't want its benefits. Clifford told me that all they had for this engine is a header, I'm not sure about cams, etc.
Well, whatever you do, good luck and keep us posted!

Est. 200 hp 300ft/lb. Torque! Not bad for a straight 6!! Also driving the girlfriend's '94 Mercury Grand Marquis.

I was of the understanding that a coil isn't really going to do a thing if your stock ignition is already healthy... Might want to doublecheck on that.

Wink

The 174 was a guess because I don't have the truck here right now, but that is about right. I have a new coil and wire in there.

I had a friend who had a 89 truck like mine cept his was a 2wd and a 302. The only thing you can get out of the coil with a regular ignition system is a wider plug gap.
