Question New Shocks For 93 F-150? Performance Vs. OEM?

Ok, it's time for some new shocks on my 93
F-150, 2WD, 302, FlareSide. The ones on it now are rusted pretty bad and the truck is riding pretty rough. Plus with my Pirelli Scorpion Zeros sticking to the pavement it's even rougher so now I am faced with the descision on what shocks to get for the truck.

I was thinking about taking it to the dealer and telling them to just put some new factory shocks on it. But It would also be nice to get some better shocks that can help me handle better so what would you guys recommend? Whats a good performance shock that they make for the 93 F-150? Or should I go with OEM.

HELP ME OUT GUYS!

Thanks!

Bilsteins give unreal control, but they do ride a bit harder. Tokicos are also reputed to be very good, but I don't have any experience with them. Don't know if Koni makes anything for the F-150 or not, but they'd be worth checking out as well.

I am not sure if you have a Midas where you live, but I replaced my factory with a set of lifetime guarenteed set. I am not sure as to what model. But they are the kind that are supposed to give a more stiff ride and help while pulling a trailer. I have had very good luck, and if I was you, go to an aftermarket place, even if you put the same thing back on, because a dealer will stick you to the wall on labor costs.

Cool, I didn't think Bilstein made shocks for normal F150s. Do any of you guys happen to know where I could find them at folr the F150? I had them on my BMW and loved them

Bilstein makes shocks for both standard and 3"/4" dropped F-150s of the 90-96 vintage. Their website is http://www.bilstein.com/ but it's experiencing technical difficulties at the moment. Last set of Bilsteins I bought was from RD enterprises in San Diego (619)584-2890 or (800)683-2890 who also sell Koni, Tokico, GAB and Boge as well as Addco and Helwig sway bars and H&R and Eibach springs. They were very knowledgable and helpful with decent prices.

Pastmaster,

at what mileage did you replace the shocks. I have 45,000 now and don't think I need new ones, but maybe I'm just used to the ride and don't really notice.

Mike: I looked at my receipt. Miles were at 55300. 8/15/97. If your bouncing around a lot and hate the ride or seeing unneccessary tire wear. Better change em.
