An ocasional "hard hit" at idle is not uncommon for the 4.9L. All the ones (3) I've had did it. And look at you ball joints.....

Click my black Bronco below & look in the Frame Noise album (near the bottom of the list). Read all the captions.

I have 3 trucks that have been making front end noise lately.
2 had bushings missing from the front shocks, causing metal to metal where there is supposed to be rubber cushion.
The other had the stud broken off the top of the shock and it was banging against the coil spring at times.

I fixed 2 of the 3.
I suppose I'll install another set of shocks next week.
It's getting old about now.

Minbe too

I have a 92 F 150 and i have been getting that same clunking noise in the front end for the past 75000 miles, basicaly since i got the truck. I was told its something to do with the front end, dried out hard rubber somethings. The only way to fix it is to drill out spotwelds and replace the rubber then put bolts where the spotwelds used to be, if you get your fixed lemme know how it went casuse i gotta do mine, i also got a busted leaf spring but thats another stroy.
