Time for a tune up have questions.

The truck is a 95 f150 4WD 5.0 auto xtra cab eddie B. My uncle died last year and the truck has just been sitting since. So now I have the truck and it needs a little work. Im going to do a cap and rotor plugs and wires. What brand should I use? Are autozone parts ok for it? Where do you guys buy your parts at? Thanks

I use Advance Autoparts, mainly cause every Auto Zone I've been to sucked. And if you can, go with the Motorcraft plugs and wires. They seem to do the best.

Check the dealership - you might be surprised. If you can develop a friendship with the parts guys, you might be able to get the prices they give the local shops, which is sometimes less than over-the-counter prices at aftermarket parts stores. I almost can't afford to buy parts at Advance & NAPA now because the dealership (where I used to work) still gives me their best prices. Even if the MotorCraft parts are a little more expensive, they're USUALLY worth it.

But stay out of the zone. NAPA, Parts Plus+, CarQuest, All-Pro, or even Advance parts are OK; but not the zone.

Agreed. Autozone blows. There's like one aisle of actual car maintenance stuff(though mostly idiot-proof "mechanic in a can" fixes), and then 8 rows of things to hang from your mirror, goofy lights to stick all over your car, and at least half a row of fake carbon fiber shift ***** so you can pimp your '87 Civic. Not to mention there's never more than two people working there, and one is screwing around in the back half the time. Everything there is in Spanish too, which pisses me off. This is America, we speak English. Get used to it. If I went to Spain, I'd bone up on my high school Spanish classes.

Yo prefiero Advance o Napa tiendas para apartas generales.

Your best bet with replacing wires and plugs is to go straight, boring Motorcraft brand. It's OEM and virtually guaranteed not to cause problems. Don't waste money on premium 4 tip spark plugs and supposedly faster response wires. Not only do they not work any better than stock, these engines don't like them. Many people go to all the trouble to tune up with "premium" parts and find the truck running worse than before. Save money and trouble, get plain Motorcraft. If the local store doesn't carry Motorcraft, go to a Ford dealer, they will.

I usually go to my local NAPA. I never had any issues, other than I usually have to make a 2nd trip because they gave me the wrong parts . But I never had any mechanical issues with their parts. I'd prefer Motorcraft parts, but NAPA is much closer to my house.
