'93 with a '96 block

My brother has a 1993 F-150 4x4/AOD with a 1996 302 block using the upper and lower intakes off his old '93 302 it runs, it also lopes and sucks gas at about 9 mpg. He wants to grab the ECU out of a '96 and put all the 96 FI stuff back in but I don't think the ECU and harness will work out of a '96 due to the fact he has the old AOD tranny in there still. What combination would work if any and how would the ECU from a 302/4r70W react with the AOD?

The 93 and 96 have completely incompatible processors. The plugs and harnesses are even different. If you think you're having trouble now....

if it were a 95 you might be good, but 96 is obd 2 and as SR said they are completely different as the 93 is obd 1
i would think you have some problems that may need attention from the swap, vac lines or crossed up wires..sumthin. the wifes bronco gets better that than 9mpg and its lifted

Do you have a 96 camshaft?? The firing order changed in 1994. You may just need to swap some wires around. Are all of your electronics are from the '93??

I should have specified PLUG wires. I have an HO cam in mine, and all I had to do was match the Mustang or '94 and up 302 firing order. Worth a shot.

Yes It has a '96 cam in it and all the electronics are off the '93 and it wouldn't start with the '93 firing order so that's why it's got the '96 FO in it now
