Valve cover gaskets...how difficult are they?
Valve cover gaskets...how difficult are they?
I am getting ready to replace the driver's side valve cover gasket on my '90 F250 with a 351...and I am wondering if this is something I should take on. Seems like there is a lot of stuff on top that I would have to remove. I was specifically wondering if the upper intake needed to come off. Also, does anyone have a favorite brand of gasket?...I don't want to have to do this again.
Thanks,
Hunter

I just recently had to do this on my 1994 4.9 litre F150. It wasn't that hard except yes there was quite a lot to take off and yes i also needed to take off the intake manifold. It may be different with the 351 but its prolly a task you should be able to accomplish yourself. I did also have another person stand by to help with the project.
Good Luck,

You shouldn't have to remove the intake to swap the driver's valve cover gasket on a V8. If FelPro (any parts store) doesn't offer a set of silicone gaskets, check Ford. If they're less than $30/pr, they're worth it. Use plenty of carb cleaner to degrease the valve cover before re-installing it, & use some gasket adhesive (Copp-R-Cote) to hold it in place.
