help with starter sylanoid please
ok my starter sylanoid went out so i replaced it myself lol
well i had one extra thing (i dont know what to call it)
left over that had the circle at the end of a wire casing
i hope that explains it
i have one of them attached to one side and two to the other
it starts but seems weird i was wonder ing if the red or the green are both
supposed to be attached to the side that goes to the battery
ok does anyone have a picture that i can view so i can make sure it right
thank you
thank you
thank you
from a stupid girl
i hope i posted in the right forum now
now one is green and one is red plus the one from the battery
i know the one on the other side is right because i kept it in my hand the whole time
which side does it go on
oh yea its a
1984 ford f150 straight six automatic
i just need to know if i need to add the one not connected to which side or will it short every thing out (my luck) lol

The word is "solenoid", but your truck doesn't have one. You only have a relay. Ford didn't start using starters with solenoids until ~'92. Other than that, the circuit is just like what's shown here:

(Click the image in the new window to zoom in.)
The heavy black wire to the starter goes on one of the large posts (usually the rear, but it doesn't matter); the small LB/R wire goes on the small post; EVERYTHING else goes on the other large post (usually the front).
The new-style relay with all the posts pointing the same way (away from the mounting base) is significantly better than the old style shown in that diagram.

ok i am not truck savvy
sorry about the spelling of it
ok it is a round object attached to the battery
one of the posts you attach the positive cable to it from the battery
ok this sounds stupid but before when i would try to start engine
i would try to turn it over and it was cranking over and over
until you "wack it" with a hammer
told you i am not truck savvy
maybe its the relay\
i know that it does attach to the battery
i just need to know how many wires attach to it right now there are 4 should there be 5??? that is my question

The battery side post should also have a green fusible link. This will look like a wire with a fat section on it. Past the link it should be yellow.
This also agrees with what Steve said... if it's not going to the starter or with the small connector it goes on the other side.
