300 Engine / part Question

Thanks Steve83 for the use of the pic.

Can you tell me what #12 & #13 are? I'm guessing that #12 is a gasket and if so are they known for leaking?

Thanks

13 is the tappet cover and 12 is the tappet cover gasket. these are famous for leaking. mostly because of improper installation.

Is there anything that might require attention with the cover off or just change the gasket?

the only thing you would do in there is changing the tappets or lifters and if you are not hearing any bad ones then just change the gasket.

The part names are in the caption, so if you'll post the linked thumbnail instead of the fullsize image, you'll be able to read them. It's also easier on those with dialup.
