OD and Cruise Control Issues

My overdrive switch has quit working and so has my Cruise control. Since both were working and now both aren't working, are they related in some mysterious way? When I push either button, nothing lights up.

Fill in your profile & add some specifics to your signature so we have SOME idea of what you're working on.

Nothing is supposed to light up for the cruise, and it's not related to the TCS (OD switch) in any way, other than they share the battery/alternator & maybe a ground wire under the dash.

For the cruise, print out these & follow the caption of the first one step-by-step.

. . .

The TCIL (OD light) is probably just burned out, so pull the codes to see if that's it. I think the cap twists or pops off (I've never done it).

The overdrive button does not have any effect. It not only doesn't come on, it doesn't work. Also, the cruise does not work.

What happened? Did someone do something to the wiring under the column?

The plastic cover "faceplate" that covers the instrument panel was loose where the screw on the right side under that shiny silver strip had pulled through the plastic. I messed with this to get it back on. That's all I know. Could I have pulled something loose as I was lifting this up and fiddling with it?

Not likely, but the wiring for the cruise buttons & the TCS/TCIL run down the R side of the column, so you MIGHT have damaged them. Your column doesn't have a clock spring, but look thru these photos. Note veiw B in the first diagram.

Cruise control is fixed! It was an outside issue. Now if I can get the O/D button to work...
