Unhappy aod shifter

i have an aod in an 88 150 and my exhaust runs beside the tranny on the drivers side where the shifter linkage is. the linkage comes strait down from the trans and makes a 90 goes out about an inch then makes another 90 and goes back down (sorry camera is fubar). so since it goes out an inch instead of strait down, it hits the exhaust. i can get reverse then nutral but when i go in to drive it hits... so i had to pull on the shifter hard and it went into gear enough for me to get it back in the garage... so tonight i figure i would take the linkage off and cut out the two 90s out and weld it back together strait go i can get it into gear,.. and i got the kick down off but i cant get the linkage off of the trans itself is it pressed on of sumthin?? the hayes manual is very vauge on this subject

The shifter lever is held in by the TV lever, which is retained internally. The trans has to be opened up to remove either.

The problem is your non-stock exhaust - not the stock shifter. Fix the problem - don't make a new one.

Cant you just "adjust" the exhaust? If you dont need alot of clearance just hammer on the pipe till it has room to operate.

If they installed the exhaust so the shifter doesn't work, it's THEIR fault and THEIR problem. So are BOTH wrecker rides.

It could be the coolest thing in the world, but what good is it if the truck don't drive?

Maybe find a rare '92-'93 AOD cable shifted truck and use that?

Hey, I'll sell you a $300 part that makes your $5,000 truck useless, and costs you time/money. Now don't everyone rush over here at once.

i called the exhaust shop today, he said i could beat it, bend it or whatever i wanted to do to the exhaust thats in the way to get it in gear or he would have it towed. and make the whole driver side over again so it will clear the shifter. by the way i looked at the sticker on the lic. plate..2/05...she has been in the drive way too long!
