M5OD plugs

Alright finally getting around to fixing this trans leak on my M5OD. I took it to cottman transmission today and they said it would be about $750 to fix my leak. He said they would have to drop the transmission and replace the rubber plugs that wear out and replace another gasket but he didn't say which one.

This sounds really steep. The transmission is leaking pretty badly with fluid laying on the trans crossmember and it makes a pretty good size spot on my road where it is leaking. The side and top of the tranny are pretty well soaked as well.

I think $750 is too much. You don't have to drop the trans to change the plugs but what other gasket would cause it to leak so much on the crossmember is there something else on top of the tranny that would be causing it to leak from up there?

How long does it take to change the plugs yourself? I think i could probably do that on my own and see how much it leaks after that.

I guess technically it's an M5R2 after doing some looking around on google. does anyone have a picture of these plugs that need replaced or at least the area that they are in? I did a search for some pictures but i can only find ones that show the sides of the trans and not the top of it.

Pull at least one of the front seats, roll the carpet to the other side of the tunnel, & remove the screwed-down glued-on cover (it takes some prying). You can see it in these pics, but I was doing a LOT more to this truck. You can get to that panel on yours without doing this much disassembly.

. .

oh yeah, sorry forgot to put that it is a 4x4 so it has the transfer case which may or may not be in the way, the shop guy didn't say anything about that. he just said that when they pull the trans it takes extra time because it is 4x4.

m5r2, 5.0 v8. 4x4
