Battery Light

Howdy, ...read the previous thread about the battery light...I had the same scenario, battery light came on, truck ('94 F-150) died. I swapped out the battery (it was old), and had a shop change the alternator (it was dying). But I still have the battery light on the dash lit. The new alternator is working correctly.

Any other ideas as to what the problem could be? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Richard

Howdy and welcome Rich!

Have you verified the voltage at the battery with a meter while the engine is running? Also take a looky at all four ground wire connections on the main ground cable. Common to have that corrode.

What spots other that the battery and starter should I look for my battery light has been on for a year or more I have had the truck looked at twice. The only way I can get the light off is to pull the black plug on the alltornator and it goes out, I thought that when you pull the plug the battery light should be on and it goes out?

Virtually all Fords use this circuit for the alternator...

...but some have the W/Bk circuit internal.

So if you unplug the large connector, the light will go out because it's then on an open circuit.

What should I do if my battery and starter connects are clean to try and get the battery light off, I have had it tested twice in a year and the garage says its fine. The light came on when I was driving down a back road to fast and came over a hill and hit a washout the light flashed on and off and back on permantly for over a year?

Had WHAT tested? The alternator (voltage regulator) controls the dash light, so THAT's what needs testing.

Then don't worry about the light.
