I had a 92 2wd at one time that i built to be a prerunner it had a 6" Superlift suspension lift and a Performance Accessories 3" body lift. It drove as good as it did before it was lifted, just make sure all your suspension and steering parts are in good shape and you have the truck realigned when you are done. Also be sure to use a quality lift kit that comes with all the drop brackets and a drop pitman arm to keep the suspension geometry where it should be. Your choice of tires will most affect how it drives, wide mud tires want to follow the ruts in the road and give you quite a bit of bump steer but a steering stabilizer eliminates most of that.
