Question smog pump question

I guess that is what it is called. On my 93 f150, 302, the pump at the bottom where the hose comes off and goes into a can on the fender. Then another flexible hose comes off and goes nowhere. Is that right? It has some vacuum to it when it is running. Don't remember seeing it just laying there?
Also my cat. convertors are no longer on the truck, do i need to do anything?
is the pump still neccessary?

If the cats are gone, the smog pump does nothing for emissions. It's sole purpose is to inject fresh air into the cats to help them light off and warm up faster.

Now being said I believe some of the trucks use this to pull vacuum as well, it's needed on the diesels for the power brakes.
