1992 F-150

Hey guys i just recently got my first vehicle....Its a 1992 F-150 XLT. Its sporting a 4.9L Inline 6...Only got 50k on her and only one rust spot on the fender. I was wonderin if i should worry about teh dual tanks over flowing. I read on here it was a problem for this year...Was there certain model numbers or was it for all 92s. thanks

I wouldn't worry.

I have a 92 F150 Flareside with dual tanks that have never been a problem. I did receive a recall a few years ago but didn't do anything about it. Mine have been doing fine now for about 190,000 miles (hopefully a few more!)

ive got a 92 and ive never had a single problem with the dual tanks, but you should worry about the rust on the fender, itll only get worse and a reputable body shop near me wants 2k for bedsides start to finish

Howdy and welcome!

Get that rust fixed now before the cancer spreads. I always did think that was a sharp paint scheme!

Looks like a five speed? Take the 20 minutes and get four quarts of fresh Mercon ATF in the tranny to keep it happy.

Oh, and more pics are required for you to stay here on the site.

The problem was for the 1993 year as they had bad check valves in FDM that year. Ford recalled them and put a check valve in the pressure lines coming out of the tanks.

The tank that is overflowing is the one with the bad valve(s), either the check valve or the shuttle valve in the FDM.

Of course these valves can go bad in other years from 1990 on, the 1989 and older could have an overflow problem but it is not the valves in the tanks defect.
