Changed Dist. cap and rotor button.

SOunds like it jumped time. Make sure it is on TDC of the compression stroke and pull the distributor out and inspect the drive gear at the end. If all is OK there, I would suspect the timing chain and/or gears.

With the #1 plug removed, have somebody turn the motor over whil you stick your finger in the plug hole. When the piston is on the compression stroke, you will feel air being pushed out the plug hole. When at TDC, the rotor button will also be pointing to the #1 position.

Or you can use a breaker bar on the crank pully feeling for air.

Talking Fixed

I am off today, got out there ready to do whatever it took.
I checked the TDC again and I was wrong. It was hitting TDC and the rotor button was past the #1. So I thought about that and loosened the dist. I turned it a good inch so it would come close to lining up. I thought what the heck couldn't hurt. I tightented it down and it cranked right up!!!!!NO miss or backfire YEAHHHHHHHHH. I tried to find a timing mark and pointer. there is no pointer. somebody told me that it may not have one????? But anyway i took it for a road test and TADA it ran great!!! Go figure. It has a slight twinge on acceleration, i'm sure it is not just right on the timing. any suggestions on the timing issue will be greatly appreciated.
I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OKAY,
One more beer is all it took.
Found the timing marks, found the spout.
Dialed it in to 10 btdc and it runs great!!
Never known a distributor to slip and turn gradually but that is what happened!!!!
