Sitting in the engine bay! It looks right at home doesn't it? The swap will be relatively easy. The studs on the engine mounts of the 4.6 line up perfectly with the holes in the old I6 mounts on the frame! Unfortunately the motor sits too low and will need to be spaced up 1 1/2 inches. I will need an oil filter re-location kit and a A/C delete as well but those things are pretty easy. The A/C compressor could be kept in place but I don't plan on running it.

And here is one of the things I am most proud of. The Mustang uses a returnless fuel system. Fuel pressure is monitored by the vehicle computer which varies voltage to the fuel pump to regulate pressure. As I am not using the factory computer or Mustang fuel pump I knew I would have use a return style system which the truck already had. I thought it was going to cost about $300.00 for billet fuel rails and I didn't want to spend that. A little research showed that older Crown-Victorias with the 4.6 used return style systems. I found a brand new set of Crown-Vic fuel rails on E-Bay for $12.95. I installed them, and they lined right up with the fuel lines in the truck! How cool. I love saving money!

Here is the front end with the grill removed. Some careful trimming alowed my front mount intercooler to slide right in, just like it was made for it!

More updates to come in the near future. Hopefully I won't go so long before the next one.

Yeah man, you suck for keepin us hangin like that...

But easily make up for that with the awsome pics!!! Yeah that 300 is a massive truck motor for sure, I'm always trippin around the rebuilt one up in the shed out back.

Another thing I just noticed was that the front bumper has the cutouts in it. I have never seen that on a 95, just 96's and '97 F2/350s. Is yours a late 95 or could have been an accident maybe?

My 95 has the cutouts on the bumper, but I know it's been in at least one crash that took out the bumper

Gee, now I'm gonna have to twin turbo my 460 out of jealousy

Ain't MegaSquirt great? We're gonna be using it on a Probe soon, and I've given heavy thought to how nice it'd be to use it to inject my trucks 460...

Thats a great lookin truck too!

Supposedly the truck is accident free. I haven't seen any kind of wrinkles or anything to indicate it has ever been hit and all the paint appears to be factory. I don't really know.

But any way, here's some more pics for everyone!

I installed the Megaview in my dash. The four pushbuttons above the display will allow for some basic tuning on the fly. But most importantly it will display real time air/fuel ratio. Probably the single most critical factor in keeping a turcocharged motor alive is making sure you don't go lean. My wideband O2 will interface with the Megasquirt and the Megaview will keep me aware of what's happening under the hood!

The Mustang motor mounts stepped off the block with 1 1/2" by 2" box tubing I picked up at the steel shop earlier this week. I initially set it up with the 2" dimension doing the spacing but it pushed the motor mount studs so far out that they wouldn't fit into the motor mount plates. So I layed them on their sides.

This pushed the studs a good ways out so that they no longer fell into the factory holes. The trusty Ryobi 4" angle grinder helped me to slot the holes a little bit.

And then I lowered the engine in for about the 10th time today and guess what? It fit! Here she is sitting unsupported except for the motor mounts. That was a pretty good feeling I have to say.

And the view from overhead showing just how wide the 4.6 really is. It fills the engine bay quite well!

That's it for now. The engine is back out and on the stand. Now it is time to strip off everything so it can be degreased and painted. Stay tuned, more updates to come!

There were three reasons I went with the standard F150.

1. It makes the perfect sleeper. No one is going to expect this thing to be a screamer!

2. It's just different! I couldn't find a swap of this type anywhere on the internet. Lots of people upgrade their Lightnings but not a lot of people seem to be making the standard trucks go fast. And no one that I could find is putting in a 4.6 No one even makes swap mounts for it. And well....... it just seems to cool to me.

3. PRICE! I bought the truck for $2000.00 I don't think I could have even gotten close to a Lightning in this condition for that kind of money.

i know you havent talked about it yet, but with as wide as the 4.6 is, isnt it going to be a trick to route the plumbing for the turbo. just curious

While the 4.6 is very wide the area in front of the engine is HUGE in the F150. So plumbing to the turbo is pretty straightforward. I am using standard Mustang GT manifold mounted backwards. The outlets face forward and I have purchased universal exhaust sockets that I will mate to my own custom exhaust system.

Spent exhaust gases will leave the turbo through a 3 inch pipe that will squeeze its way through the engine bay and out to an exit in front of the passenger rear wheel. It will be tight but it will fit.

Sorry there are no pics this week. I have made progress in the cleaning and painting but it really isn't very exciting. More parts are showing up daily. This week my wastegate and blow off valve showed up. I also got the socket flanges mentioned above. A new clutch and pressure plate have been ordered and should be here in the coming week, and by next weekend the drivetrain should be permantly mounted.

More updates to come.

it will fit just fine, the easy way to do it is just go the the junk yard and find a 460 truck and pull engine mounts and stuff out of it and have some fun and by the way i think you should do it

Hey Adrian! Thanks for the free press! I have sniffed around over there since you linked it here and it looks like a great group of people there. I will register sometime in the next few days.

The UPS, DHL, FedEx, and USPS guys have been coming to my door nonstop lately! Here is a pic of some of the recent parts arrivals.

In this photo you can see a big box of exhaust bends in both 2 1/2" and 3". Also visible is my Innovate Motorsports precision wideband 02 sensor! A V-Band clamp, exhaust flange for the turbo (Wrong one, has to be exchanged ), stainless flex coupling, 255 LPH in tank pump, and my wastegate and blow off valve.

And just to prove that I actually do work on this thing from time to time here is yours truly making the first weld on this project! This photo should make any OSHA inspectors head explode! Do you like my concrete welding bench? Special thanks to my wife for snapping the photo and for not getting blinded in the process!

And the item I was welding on, the first exhaust manifold to turbo pipe. There will be a corresponding pipe fabbed up and merged into this one from the passenger side.
