The K&N FIPK works wonders in my '95, but I have a 4.9L. Those with V8's have consistantly reported less than total satisfaction with them.

Yup. Same part numbers and everything (at least for the K&N FIPK).

Yes and no.
The Gen II kits which replace the airbox and intake tube and have the heat shield, etc. are V-8 specific. Possibly they could be adapted to the 4.9, but given the different location/orientation of the T/B it would take some work. The standard FIPK replaces the air box and fits either engine.

You'd be a good person to ask: Just out of curiosity, do you know what the outside diameter is of the two TB ports for the 5.0, or what the inside diameter of the air intake hoses are for the same? i want to get rid of the factory air tubes on my 4.9L because they're ribbed, and I'm looking for the most economical method.

I just happen to have a spare 5.0 T/B lying around for future use.
I'm pretty sure the horns are the same OD, but I'll measure tonight and post.
I can't measure the 300 T/B at the moment, it's not at home, so you'll have to get the other half of the comparison on your own.

Excellent! The 4.9L 'horns' are 1 15/16".

You don't happen to have an extra set of V8 air intake tubes lying around as well, do you?

You wouldn't happen to remember what the auction title was, do you? I've spent an hour or two on eBay looking, but it's easy to miss something if you don't use the right words when searching.

The V8 T/B is 2-9/32" OD right behind the beaded edge of the horn where the hose rides on the horn surface.

That means the V8's are 11/32" larger. That's significant enough to mean that using the V8 hoses wouldn't be a wise idea. Looks like this needs to be a homemade item. Joy.

Thanks!
