Adjusting Throttle Posistion Sensor

Hey guys i recently returned my Throttle Posistion Sensor to Autozone after they scanned the codes and said the new one i had bought and installed was bad however i read in my haynes manual it says all of the except working with a 4.9 had to be adjusted it says it get your voltage at 1.0 volts retighten and check again after doing so my truck idles at about 1,200 rpm and my problem is still there i noticed when looking at my original one the screw holes hadnt been drilled out to get the required 1.0 volt and believe me it took some doings to get it to where i could move it enough to go from around 0.46 volts to the book required 1.0 volts. So my question is has anyone else had to do this and although the book says you must since my old one was never wallowed out is this acutally totally neccasary? Thanks In advance......

I've done it several times on my Mustang. Sometimes you do not need to make the holes bigger.. If you can get the .98 volts without making the holes bigger then no problem. If you need to make the holes bigger to get the voltage you want then so be it. no biggy. you don't want 1.0 or above. .98 is perfect.

Show me a book that says it "must" be set to 1.0 volt. Such a book should be thrown in the trash.

I second that. 1.0 is the threshold where the computer starts adding in fuel for accel pump and so on.

Well i do agree 1.0 volts did seem alittle much. What is the ideal voltage for the tps? Thanks in advance......

As close to 1.0 Vdc without going over.

This is a popular "mod" for the Mustang crowd. Is said to improve throttle tip-in.

If you're idling at 1200 after dinking with it, you probably opened the throttle plate a bit by accident. Otherwise, you'll need to reset the computer (unplug the battery for 15 minutes) so it will be forced to relearn idle strategy.

This is a popular myth, but is actually bad advice. There is no need to set it any higher than .95vdc. Keep in mind that the TPS voltage increases with temperature.
