My truck has recently been making a ticking noise, and seems to be missing when accelerating in 3rd and 4th gears only. A friend changed plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, fuel and air filter. None helped. Any ideas?

1995 FORD TRUCK F150 1/2 TON P/U 2WD
6 Cylinders 300 Y 4.9L EFI

Also, the ticking is new since he replaced everything. The missing was there before he changed them.

Did he examine the plugs before throwing them away?

Have you run any fuel injector cleaner through the system?

 

Found it! Loose spark plug sound right? I found the 3rd one back was loose enough to wiggle. After I tightened it, and gave him a huge ration of crap , the ticking and missing is gone.
