confusion at the dealership
confusion at the dealership
so i need part # D9AZ 7B415A, it's a special bolt that connects the shift rod from the steering column to the transmission gear selector linkage at the trans.
in an attempt to adjust the shift rod, i broke off the adjusting nut (bolt was seized to the threads) so i ran to the dealership for this special bolt. this is for an AOD trans.
the parts guy pulled up pictures so i can verify what i was needing and this is what was shown on his computer:

i was not able to find that bolt. ths above picture does not represent the shift linkage that is on my truck. so after scratching our heads, the parts guy says he'll check on the E4OD transmission. the pic below is what we found:
weird. my specific trans is an AOD, yet the linkage of the E4OD is what is in my truck. the part that i need is what is circled in the last pic. and yes, priced out at 93 bucks.
why so expensive and why do i have the E4OD linkage on my AOD? i don't have the button on the dash to over ride overdrive.
what's the deal?

i might just have to rig up something with a bolt, some washers and lock washers for cheaper. and some freakin anti-seize!

I don't know why the linkage isn't what it should be but just go to a junkyard for the part you need. Something like that they might let you have for a couple bucks, or even for free.

Actually after taking a closer look at that first pic of the AOD trans i think more of those parts are inside the trans than what he outlined there. 7E332 is the parking pawl, thats definitely in the trans. He might just be in the wrong picture. The linkage may be the same for both trannies.

yeah, i might as well run to the junk yard with a hack saw and saw one off from the trans linkage. but chances are that the nut would still be seized up onto the bolt.
i do have a nut splitter so i hope i can split the nut off without having to torque it off. i don't want what happened last time to happen again.
plus, what are the only differances between the E40D and the A0D? just the button on the dash?
