Removing steering wheel

My ignition cylinder won't make the last turn to 'Start' on my column - it's bound up. I removed the switch from the column and tried to pull the linkage to the last increment but it won't budge (I start it with an allen wrench...) I want to remove the steering wheel to see what's binding it. Any tricks other than getting a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off. And, once I'm in, is there anything I can do to the gears - is another column the answer?

I have tilt.

Thanks

Usually if you wiggle them side to side a little and pull real hard the steering wheel will pop off, otherwise you have to use a puller.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks jon,

Actually, a rental from Autozone is only $15. I'm gonna try that route first. with my luck I'll mess something up trying to wiggle it.
