timing help

my timing pointer makes no sense, it has a hole in it, it has a pointer at the very top. when setting where do i line up the 10 degree line on the balancer?
i removed the shorting bar from the spout connector also.
when lined up to the pointer at 10 degrees the module is hitting the a/c compressor!? any one got a pic of this pointer plate?
any info please!!!

Did you have the Distributor out? If so it sounds like you may be a tooth off.
Is number one plug wire in the hole marked 1?
Do you have the timing light on number one wire?

The round hole was for a magnetic pickup, but not used on your engine.
With the spout bar out and the start wire on the starter solenoid and started with the key only, your pointer needs to point to Base ignition timing and is set at 10° ± 2° BTDC.
