truck won't start!!!!!

My 91 5.0 wouldn't start today!!! It turns over but does not fire. It was low on fuel so we put around 8 gallons in it, and it had a half a tank. Tried starting it again, and it didn't do anything. We also added some heat de icer to the fuel, and even that didn't do anything. We thought it might be a frozen fuel line, or a fuel pump problem, but maby an ignition problem too. Has anyone had a similar problem with a 91 5.0 efi engine?

When mine did this, it was the ignition module. I got a new one for 15 bucks and it works fine.

usually the modual will go bad after it gets hot...one way to get home is to put a bag of ice on it and cool it down...yes this a cure...but it wont last long...zap!

I tried starting it several times today, and once again nothing happened, not even a single fire. So i got kind of mad and i tried it again, and jammed on the gas pedal.......well it fired several times and started, and i floored it a little, then i let off and the rpms dropped to about 400, and shook the truck and almost quit, i could smell a strong smell of gas but it was running, so i kept the rpms up to 2500 for a minute, and let off again. It stayed at a normal idle, and the strong gas smell went away....so i guess it was a frozen fuel line, the heat just took a while to get to the ice to melt it or something. I'll try and start it after it cools down later and see if it still runs normal and start up without gas...after all, it is EFI.

Well, it hesitated when i tried starting it again, and i had to use the gas, but it started right up and kept running, and i took it for a ride for several miles, nothing went wrong so it must have been the frozen fuel line.

I don't know how similar a '91 5.0 engine is to a '96 5.0, but my air idle control valve quit working and it wouldn't idle at all. It would start and run as long as you kept your foot on the gas pedal. If it would idle at all, it was only about 400rpm. Also, gas mileage went way down. I took the air idle control valve off and soaked the shaft with penetrating oil then wiped that off and lubed it with some silicone lubricant. Been working fine ever since. A new air idle control valve is about $45.00.
Hope that helps......GradyJ

It started up fine yesterday, without gas. So the heat must have taken a while to get into the fuel line. It started right up, it was a good feeling.
