What is this on my motor???

My brother just bought a '94 F150 with the 4.9L inline 6

On the drivers side of the engine there is a shiny-looking piece of tin or metal that is a little over a 1 ft X 2 inches tall and is just above the oil pan & above the distributor...

Its leaking a little from there...and he wants to replace it, but doesnt know what to ask for....I have no idea what it is....

FYI I havent seen it myself...he just described it to me over the phone.....so if my description is a little off, thats why...

So anyone know what that is for & what it's called??

Thanks a bunch guys,

-Chris

If I am thinking of the same thing you are, it's just somethign that covers some of the engine internals. If it's shiny, than it's new, as the factory one was painted FoMoCo dark blue, like the valve covers. Of course, they may have stopped doing this before 1994...

If so, what would I ask for at Autozone?

I don't know about a gasket behind it... I can look in my chilton's, but it will be a while before the car I left it in gets home. I'd just try describing it to the fellers at the store, and see if they can get a diagram of the motor to have you look at or something.

It is the lifter cover, and there is a gasket behind it. This is how to access the lifters on the 300 six cylinder.
