Question o2 sensor

How many o2 sensors does my 96 302 have(Edit: I see there are 2, one before and one after the cat. That's what I thought...)

Is it possible to have a bad o2 sensor and not throw a code?

Bear with me until I get my butt to the store for the Chilton/Hayes -- Just bought this truck over the weekend.

Thanks

I don't know about these trucks specifically, but I will give it a shot.

When there is a sensor before and after the cat, that usually means OBD-II.
The first sensor aids the computer in all o2 sensor functions.
The second sensor has no reason for being other than to tell the computer that your cat is present and working.
So my 'educated guess' would be that if either were malfunctioning, you would get a code.

If anyone knows for sure, correct me...

Good luck
Dave

Since your truck is OBDII it monitors the o2 sensors for both open and shorts, and range/performance, so if the o2 sensor is bad it should set a code after two drive cycles.

Well I started it up this morning and it did the whole thing, stumbling, stalling etc. And, now I have the CEL on.

I'll have to stop out to Advance at lunch and have them pull the code for me.

(Edit)

[i] Ran out to Advance on my break and pulled the code. 0385. Crank Position Sensor Circut Malfunction. It threw this hard while the the truck was missing really bad. I'm going to reset it and see if it comes back before I worry about it.

It also threw the P1000. "OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete". That should go away on its own too I think.

(Edit)

CEL for the Crank Sensor shut off on its own after about 5 miles.
