AC Smells and is Not Cooling

I got to start off my day with a foul smell from my AC an no cool air. The compressor is not turning and my guess is a leak in the evaporator resulted in low pressure causing the cluth to not activate. How much of a pain is the evaporator replacement going to be? Has anyone done this that might have any tips. Am I overlooking something easier?

Thanks
