Gas mileage?

Hello everybody. I just got a 1994 XLT 4X4 with the 302. I curious what kind of mileage to expect. I've been getting about 12 mpg in town and maybe 14 on the highway. Seems lower than it should be. If any of you have a similar rig, could you post what kind of mileage you're getting? Thanks for the help.

Also, I just installed a K&N filter kit and I'm planning to run true dual exhaust. I've heard that opening everything up will boost the horses and improve fuel mileage. I've read quite a few posts regarding this issue, but if anyone has any suggestions or experience with a similar truck, any input would be great. Thanks.

I get the same with my 93 same 5.0 4x4 ,auto ,ext cab,31x10.50 aftermarket cat back duals 3".I was thinking of a ram air type filter and replacing the full time hubs with a set of locking ones that should decrease the drag and pick up the mileage a bit ,but hey i didnt buy it for the mileage.(93 f150 xlt,04 xlt expedition)

A few things i found will help, running manual locking hubs instead of autos, keep Air conditioner/heater off, and turn of O/D when around town.

Automatic hubs won't create any more drag than manuals unless they are not maintained. They are either locked or unlocked just like manuals, and the wheel should spin freely when they aren't engaged.

The largest mileage gains I got on my truck were created by a Jacobs box/coil/wires along with the increased gaps they allow. This along with underdrive pulleys, a Gibson cat back, and home brewed intake mods was getting me over 15 average with most of those miles around town. Keeping to the speed limit I could crack 20 on the highway.

My box died and I haven't had time to troubleshoot it or get it repaired if needed. I've also added a heavy duty fan clutch and that should reduce mileage. As soon as I get some gremlins worked out I'll track it without the box.

The underdrives gained me about 1/2 mpg, but at only $100 (or less) they pay for themselves quick. The box was over $400 and had more than paid for itself. The cat back didn't seem to do anything for mileage.... very, very slight increase. I might add that I did the cat back last, and it might help more on a stock truck.
