94 5.0 rough start up

This is just something I have been curious about lately:

A week before I sold my 1994 F150 5.0 AT 4x4 (121,000 miles) I was getting a check engine light at start- ups and the RPM's would soar to around 2,000 and then immediately fall all the way down to 400 or 500 and the engine would almost die...the RPM's would go up and down a few times while in park and then the vehicle would drive fine and the check engine light would go away. I told the guy I sold it to he might want to check it out and never really thought about it again.
Anybody know what was wrong with the truck?

Nobody has any thoughts or ideas? A loose or bad PCV? A problem with the IAC? Obviously it's not an issue as the truck is no longer mine...just wondered it anybody knew what it was off hand

Could be EGR, EVP, TPS, IAC, list goes on and on. lol. I can almost assure you it was something simple. I went ahead and replace all that stuff on my truck as it was acting weird on cold starts cost me about $120 and all new parts from O\Reilly with lifetime warranty...just keep the recipt.!

Sounds like the IAC valve to me. Perhaps even the crank sensor, but that usually results in a no-start.
