Brake Upgrades
Brake Upgrades
Well who here has upgraded their brakes? I am looking to maybe upgrade mine to some F250 or better brakes so when I tow the Mustang I don't have such a hard time stopping in hurry. Let me know what works and who to get em from
Thanks

They sell a kit for the gen 1 lightnings. nice stuff, a little pricey but its worth it.

Simply changing to Performance Friction "Z" compound pads increased braking performance by a substantial margin. IIRC they were around $75 for the set.
They are a whole lot dirtier than stock pads and can be a bit noisy but they WORK.

I was thinking about the performance friction pads, but what about rotors. JC Whitney has cross drilled rotors and Diamnond cut rotors. The Diamond cut ones are about twice as much. Of course that don't mean they work any better. I use cross drilled rotors on my mustang
The tech rep from Hawk Brakes (I use their HP+ compound, which is equivalent to the PFC Z, on the Escort and the Mustang; they don't make pads for the F150) strongly disliked cross drilled rotors. They accelerate brake pad wear and lead to premature cracking of the rotors without giving any significant increase in performance. He did like slotted rotors with 3 or 4 slots, not the 6 or more frequently found on aftermarket rotors, for their increased cooling/gas venting capability.
What was/is the difference in brakes between the F250 and F150 (90-96)? Thus far every aftermarket rotors I have seen have more than four slots??? Would it be worth swapping out F250 front brakes??
