79 ford

there is a guy that lives down my street, and he has a 79 ford truck, with a 460 v8. he has bored out all the cylinders, and has 11 to 1 compression. on desktop dyno it said that he was pulling 490 hp at 5500 and 520 lbs of torque at 4500, but he has never bothered to time 0-60 and quarter mile. what do you guys think it can do?

I think it will burn the tires off the back.

Not as fast as you'd think. Trucks are heavy and traction sucks. I'll guess a low 14 sec. 1/4 mile time.

What's the configuration of the truck? Long bed or short bed? Regular cab or extended cab? 2wd or 4x4? How big are the tires? What's the gear ratio? What kind of tranny? You'd probably get much different times if this engine is in a large, mud bogging 4x4 with 40" tires than a 2wd with 28" tires. But trucks are very heavy, especially from the '70's. To me, a bored out 460 in a late 70's truck sounds like a great mud bogger to me (assuming it's a 4x4 with meats), forget the drag racing! But that's my ho.

it is a long bed regular car, 2wd and i dont know the tire size or the gear ratio, but he said the tranny was from a toploader(?) mustang, but it might also be from an old cobra. and he built it for drag racing, he gave a friend of mine a neck ache.

My mechanic has a a 76 supercab short box, 460 ( I can't remember what he has done to it) but he ran 12.3 up here at 3000 feet above sea level.

Beautiful truck.
