Red face Dont you just hate it.

Well, I finally got to use something I learned in drivers ed...
Like how to stop with NO brakes, ha ha ha that was fun, NOT! it was nuts I left football practice, dropped my friend off and on my way home I went to slow down and the brake pedal went the floor!! I was like Oh S*IT.. so I dropped it from drive to 2 truck slowed down and then shifted into 1st... I pulled in to the parking lot of the school and caught my breath and thanked god I didn't hit anything (ive only had my license for a week) and checked things out, looked around no fluid leaks around tires. so I called my dad told him what happened, he just laughed. he told me to check the fluid, I did nothing in it. I called one of my friends told him to stop at the store and bring me some brake fluid. Brakes tightened up a little bit to make it home. now I just got to figure out whats wrong with my truck!

Probably a leak somewere. When you pumped the brakes it probably increased the air pressure then it leaked out and no brakes.

You HAVE got a leak. Brake fluid dosent just magically vanish. Pull your truck onto a clean surface and start pumping the crap out of the brakes. You should eventually see fluid start leaking onto the ground. Trace the leak, fix it, and then bleed the system and you should have brakes again.

You do have a leak, and it could be a number of things.
1. Master cylinder: Check for leakage at power brake booster, if equipped.
2. Inside, under the dash where the brake pedal rod goes through the fire wall.
3. Front calipers: check for leakage at piston or with the associated lines.
4. Real caliper/wheel cylinders and associated lines.
5. ABS controller, if equipped

Don't drive it with this problem

Ok I found the leak, when i hit the brakes, it looks like it leaks from the frame, i assume that must be a main brake line, right? is that easy to fix? if not how much do you think it will cost at a brake shop?
Thanks

bigred,

I would try to pinpoint the leak. You state that it is leaking by the frame. For all you know, it may be leaking from a hose fitting and running to the lowest spot, which may be at the frame. I suggest that you get some help in finding the exact spot of the leak.

There is only one line that runs from front to rear i believe, so you will need to replace the whole line. and if your master cylinder ran completely dry of fluid you will eed to bleed that first before you bleed the rest of the system.

It will probably only cost you $150 for a shop to do it.
