Well last Wednesday when me and my friends went to the track, we got some vids of our trucks. Well the vids were taken on a new 8mm Camera and he had to take that back home, so I am replaying those runs on my 23 year old Sony 8mm Camera....and well point is the quality is bad, but at least you can see the run and hear everything. This was my best run of the night, but 1 tenth slower than my personal best, but the temps were in the 80s and humidity was over 90% so I didnt expect to break any records, but it was a night that I experimented with different launches and shift points. I found the best combo so next time out...this Saturday night I hope to break that record. For those wondering, the best combo for me is to launch off idle and just mash the gas and let my converter stall up to ~ 2200rpms on its own, then it catches and i go, I start shifting into 2nd at 4300, so that when it catches I'm at 4600 and when it shifts there, OMG I better hold on cause it literally will pop me out of my seat, no lie. Then I wind out 2nd to 5100 rpms, switch into 3rd and keep the torque converter unlocked (I put it on a switch ) Well heres the vid, I have it in 2 formats a .wmv and .avi so download whichever works best for you, and please right-click Save As. Hey, i went to the track for the first time saturday. they were having street legal grudge match night, so me and my buddy took our trucks (his is a chevy) my best run was 17.99 @77.6mph I dont think it is half bad at all. best part is I smoked my buddies chevy, his best was 19.45@74mph. BTW its a 1999 K2500HD 4x4 crew cab with a 350 and an auto.

Whats your guess for what the TQ not locking up gain you? A tenth or two? Did the funky engine feeling go away?

 

Yeah the engine feeling was infact the converter lockign up. I put it on a switch so I tired it all different ways. I was about a half mph faster with the converter unlocked. It makes a difference. On Saturday night I'm going back.....I'm gonna try my hardest for a 15 second pass. It might be out of my reach but I'm going to drop some weight to see if it helps, and its going to be cooler.

 

have you tried all the usual pre race stuff like resetting the computer and packing ice on the intake?

 

Nope havent done either, but I am going to reset the comp for sure next time. This weekend I am also going to block off the EGR to try to keep the upper intake cooler because it gets hot!

Hey Beastie, did you ever get some sound files of your exhaust after the magnaflow ???? Mine is rotting away behind the muffler and I might have to change it out before my emission test in two months. Not sure if the guys will let me slide with it or I might just go get it done this week while the tails are still attached.

Nice vids, you are running about as fast as JMC the last time he was at the drag strip. He has since went to bigger tires (33" I think) and has added Neal's old JBA headers to the truck. Will have to see if we can get him to go with us next time.

No man sorry I havent gotten the clips yet...I really just keep forgetting, but I will try to do it this weekend. It doesnt sound much different sicne I added the LTs and took off the cats. It only sounds different at WOT above 4k roms, then it just screams and the tone changes...and well its awesome. But I will ge the clips. You can kinda hear what it sounds like in the vid.

 

Blocking the EGR will raise combustion temperatures. This could cause some pre-ignition. If it does, your knock sensor will pull ignition timing out. Don't be surprised if the truck runs slower.

 

lol, cool vid. i was gonna run my truck at the track once, but the clock probably doesn't go up that high .

 

Thanks for the info StrangeRanger, I guess I won't be blocking it off now. I was going to take out all the seats in the truck, the center console, tailgate, and maybe the spare tire, but knowing my luck I would get a flat lol. I may just run it as is, minus the tailgate and see if the cooler weather will make a big enough difference.

 

I haven't had a spare in my truck for over a year. It never came with the jack and the other hanger stuff was rusted badly so I cut it all out. Take yours out and put it all in the bed. Then when you get there unload it in the pits or where ever. Them things are heavy.
