Exhaust for an 86' F150 5.0...
Hey I got a friend who recently bought the above mentioned truck. Single-cab, longbed, near perfect condition.
Anyways, he wants to get some exhaust for it. He doesn't want it too loud (doesn't wanna get pulled over), he wants a nice deep tone, and something cheap. I was thinking maybe a single 3" w/ no muffler, but what do you guys think?
Thanks

Get the Flowmaster dual exhaust, the 3" tube really doesn't give you extra HP, if you manage to exhaust the 4 left headers separate from the 4 right headers, you'll have a nice setup...I would recommend you saved some money and go to a muffler shop, you can get either the 2-1/4" or the 2-1/2" tube, just as long as they are separate. Those guys really know how to bend tubes because it's a custom job. Most places sell you the 3" cat-back single exhaust system, but the other setup is better. Good Luck.
Jeg's has a cool split-to-dual system. I used to have something sililar to jegs set-up. It had resonated tips with no muffs. I currently have no muffler, and not resonated tips. The whole system ends 6 inches after the second cat! its only loud when its started, but I still have both cats too.
Magnaflow is the only way to go. I have been through more exhaust setups then you would believe and I know what is good. Magnaflows are quiet, but have a deep tone, get on them and they immediately wake up, but keep the deep tone. Oh yea, you get a performance increase
They are the only way to go.

Once again it failed to send me email notifications.
Anyways, he said he saw a kit at Jegs for like $100, so I will check them out.
I know what you are talking about Mex. Dan by separating the 2 headers, but he doesn't really wanna spend that much money. Up here custom exhaust work is expensive, and most places here do shtty work.
I will also check out Magnflow, by the way you described it Beastie, that's exactly what he wants.
Thanks guys

Well, we cut off the muffler last night to get an idea of what to do.
It's louder and deeper, but it didn't increase "that" much compared to stock. We put a glasspack on there, and it didn't anything except muffel the sound way too much (yeah I know it's a muffler).
Any ideas why cutting off the extremely large muffler would not increase the sound that much?
Also a cheap "solution" would be nice too
Thanks
