What do you guys know about this cam?

I have read some good things on this board about the Crane Cams 2020 and 2030 camshafts so I wondered if they were 50 State Street legal. Well, like most great aftermarket products, they aren't but the Crane Cams H-260-2 camshaft is 50 state legal. Now this doesn't appear to be quite as an aggressive camshaft as either the 2020 or the 2030, nor is it a roller cam, but it does look to be much more stout than my insipid 2021 camshaft. Anyone know anything about the H-260-2 camshaft? Thanks!

dave186,

Someone posted all the specs on the 2020, 2021, and 2030 camshafts and as you can plainly see, the 2021 is simply a mild hydraulic cam. Granted, it doesn't affect your idle, drivability, or smogability, but I'm still trying to figure out if it was money well spent. I wish CC had some actual dyno figures for these cams in our applications. But I guess most people that swap cams also swap a variety of other parts and it would be almost impossible to give meaningful data given all the potential aftermarket setups as each one would probably be affected slightly different.

I went with the 2021 bout 3years ago and I have not regretted it, I chose it because as already said it doesn't affect driveability. I have a tremendous power increase but I can't say its all the cam, I built the entire engine from the bottom up, ported heads, etc. What I ended up with is just what I wanted, I can run with the new trucks for speed and pulling power, still gets around 14mpg (its a 4x4) with no problems associated with bigger cams. I also do not run a chip.

see thats kinda what im looking for, I dont want to convert to mass air or get a custom chip or anything. I would like to but I cant afford to go to a roller cam, so im thinking either the 2021 or this H-260-2 if anybody knows anything about it. My dad has a 268H in his 390 and that thing has gobs of power, but thats an entirely different setup.

I have not converted to mass air and don't plan to after reading a little bit on the differences, I don't think its worth it for the money it would cost.

I have the 2020 installed in my 351. However, it will respond slightly differently than on a 302, and I am not even sure if the 2020 is compatible with speed density for the 302. On my 351 you can notice a slight cam lope due to the 112 degree lob separation, but it will idle like a champ all day long without a hickup. Crane lists its power range from idle through 5500rpm, and I certainly don't doubt it one bit on either extreme. It seems to have a massive surge of power that comes on about 2600rpm that carries through to 5000rpm. This isn't the cam you want if you like the street/strip action, its more towing/torque orientated. It has more valve lift than a good majority of the cams out there, which is good, especially if you have improved cylinder heads. Is it worth it to upgrade from the 2021? I guess I would say its not worth the effort to swap out JUST the camshaft for all the work involved, but then again I don't know what the 2021 is like.

forgot to add, I am almost positive the 2020 is smog legal. I can check to make sure, but Crane sent me a special decal that im suposed to display in my engine compartment prooving it to be legit 50 state.

Good news! For CA drivers any ways... the Crane Cams powermax 2020 hydraulic roller camshaft is 50 state smog legal! I didn't see the C.A.R.B. EO exemption number on some of the links, but I finally found it on one of them at their site. I think I'm just going to stop p*$$y fartin' around and convert to mass air so I can get a camshaft with some decent lift and heads that will flow so that my truck doesn't have to huff and puff with those 35's anymore. Now all I need is $$$
