Question Bogging down

Well, I've been driving my truck up here at UT while my car is getting fixed. The problem is, when I take off in first, and sometimes into the shift of second, the motor boggs down, and throws you forward a little. I changed the cap and rotor, new plugs and wires, I can't think of what else it would be. Also, it may just be me, but I think it's not as bad when it's cold out. Yes, about a month ago I changed the air charge temp sensor, and the clutch is only 30,000 miles old. Any help in this very annoying problem (especially in the big city) would be greatly appreciated! Kris

Check your fuel pressure, sounds like your losing it, replacing the pump is a pain if its in the tank, took me about 3hrs

Are there two fuel pumps on these trucks? (One for each tank I thought) Maybe not though. Sounds costly, possibly is there anything else I can try before I resort to fuel pump changing.

Is your truck EFI?...if it is, then there are 2 fuel pumps, one sending unit inside the fuel tank and another high pressure fuel pump down in the chassis..
If either pump goes bad, the engine would not run at all. There are a couple things you might want to check;

1. Replace the fuel filter, add a bottle of Chevron or STP Gas Treatment, to see if you can clean out the fuel lines.

2. If the problem persists, then you probably have a dirty fuel injector, if you want to clean them, you probably might as well check the timing (full tune-up).

I did notice you mentioned the problem is not as bad when the engine is cold...this is typical of a bad EGR valve...you can test it by replacing it with a used one, even Lincoln EGR's fit on F150's

Good Luck.

Could be the fuel filter or catalytic converter.

I forgot to mention I had just changed the fuel filter also. Yes, it is EFI.

I guess this leaves me with either the injectors, EGR valve, or fuel pump.

How hard is the EGR to replace? I've never replaced it on any vehicle I've had.

It is very easy to replace...almost a bolt-on thing...looks like a small flying saucer hooked to the throttle body...but it's not the air by-pass valve...watch out...you can just go to a junkyard, and a Lincoln or late model T-bird will do...

I do suspect thou the EGR is not going to solve your problem, but it won't hurt to give it a shot...Good Luck.
