4.10s and LS are in!

Well i finally got it done tonight, ive had all the stuff sitting in the shop for a few weeks, but my dad just broke down and got a press so i could do it myself. I had a bit of trouble getting the backlash set, but everything else went as planned. my rear end is pretty much brand new, I replaced every bearing and seal, new gears, new diff, it should last forever. and as for the ratio change, its just what i had hoped for, its just a little bit better than the way it was with the 3.55s and 31" tires. now im wondering what i should do with the front end?

I agree. Your transfer case will not be able to turn the front diff at a different speed as the rear diff. Unwanted destruction will occur.

im not to worried about having 4wd, Ive never had to use it on the street, just when i go out wheeling. the thing is, i have to change carriers in the front, so im thinking about getting a LS up there too.

Ok, ive been looking around for stuff for my front end, do i have to get reverse cut gears? or will normal dana 44 gears work? and also do i have a 30 spline carrier? Im thinking i will get a track loc for the front too, i think i can pick one up for under $200

if you are going to get a new carrier, go with either an air locker or eletric locker. This way you can disengage it on side hills, if you don't you will slide down them. The best way to find # of splines is to physically pull and axle and count them. Knowing ford there coild be a million diffrent combinations. Or if you pulled your id tag, someone here could probley translate it for you.

I cant pull the axle out to check, takes tooooooo much time that i dont have. Im not sure if i have an axle tag on the front, i know the rear didnt have one left, but i will check. right now the way the funds are looking im going to have to go with an open carrier. what about the reverse cut thing? I found a guy here selling the carrier and gears (4.10) out of his 96 dodge front end, would those work?
