I just wanted to say the config I ran my truck in...Mirrors are folded in, tailgate down, and the rear tank 3/4 full. Next wed, I will drop the pressure in my back tires to 30psi, raise the front tires up higher and take the tailgate off...I will see if it helps. thanks for the tips strangeranger!

There's some wind tunnel data "out there" that indicates MORE drag with the tailgate down or removed than up. Apparently the tailgate in the up position breaks up the vortex generated by the air spilling over the side rails; in the down or removed mode the low pressure area is larger and creates more drag, not less.

I don't know if this true or not. It is probably of an order of magnitude that makes litle or no difference at 70 MPH. The one time I ran my truck with the bed uncovered, the tailgate position made no difference in my ET. YMMV. A tonneau is the answer if you want to minimize drag. It eliminates the air spillage over the bed rails and breaks up the low pressure area behind the truck into 2 small areas inlike a cap which adds more weight and gives a single very large low pressure area.

Cool

HI!... beastie : Remove your tailgate, run almost empty on fuel, raise tire pressure to 40-45psi in front tires, lower rear tire pressure to about 24-28PSI and GET YOURSELF SOME GEARS....... MAN, that 3.31 gear ratio is killing you. If I were you I would get some 4.10 gears but if your worried about MPG then get some 3.73's. With all of the above you should be able to get your 15.9E.T or very close to it.

Hey Neal I upgraded to 3.73s...I just never updated my sig. I ran a 16.558@80.19. We got to the track late...so I didn't have time to mess with the tires and stuff. All I did was fold in the mirrors and lower the tailgate. I had a 1/4 tank of gas...and that is only a few gallons on the old trucks since we have 2 tanks. And on my 3rd and fastest run at the top of 3rd gear I could tell that the truck was running out of gas. I was .5mph faster at the 1/8 than the previous run, but in the 1/4 I was .1x slower...I could feel it sputtering or something. It is hard to explain, but I filled up on the way home and no problems anymore. I think I am going to let the truck rest until the winter or unless I put some new mods on it in the meantime. I know I could knock off a 16.4...maybe not tonight but another night. I really need to get to the track at 6, make a pass or 2 to get a baseline, the let the truck cool off till like 9pm or so. The truc kalways runs best after a cool down, even if is just like 10 min or so. Today I made 2 passes right off the interstate and their was nobody at the track tonight so those runs were close to one another, then I guess I let it cool down for around a 1/2 hour then went and ran again. I need to get my chip sorted out, so that my shift points are where I want them to be! I am just not consistent manually shifting.

Wowbam,
You ought to try polishing your attitude. This is a truck forum and most of the people who hang out here are interested in improving the performance oftheir trucks. If that seems silly to you, find another bulletin board that caters towhataever kind of vehicle you perfer.

Not silly, just sound advice. Just trying to save you from heartache and a boat load of $$. Throw your cash away if you want, but some day count how much you have spent and wonder what you could have bought.
Sorry, if I upset anyone. Have fun
