1990 F150 Electric Window Problem

Wierd problem I have. I have a Lariat which has electric windows. For some reason today the driver-side control stopped allowing me to raise or lower the passenger-side window. I then tried to raise and lower the window from the passenger-side controls. This worked, but only for a minute!?!?!? Now it doesn't work from either side. The driver-side window works fine.

Any ideas before I tear re-check the fuses and then tear into the door?

thanks, dp

Hi

If there are fuses for e.wid. obviously that would be 1st. ck.

Maybe someone knows better or faster shortcut...but seems to me gotta start w/switch to verify its working. When you push switch, can you hear window lift motor running even thou its not lifting?

If so, then probably bad gear? Those gears used to be replaceable..either metal/plastic. Old motor still ok..just needed new gear....yours may/maynot be same. Was like that in 88.

When pushing button for e.wid...if you cant hear lift motor running or making a noise...then use jumper wire on switch..that will throw juice to motor...if window lifts..bad switch. If nothing, probably bad motor. Also could be bad/corrded connections etc?

Anyhow, thats what i recall. Hope that helps.

Good luck...OT

I'm having the same problem on my 89 F-150. First the passengers side went, and then the drivers side. I can hear the noise, and the window will either slowly chug up, or not even go up at all. Drivers side went out like a day after passengers side...

if the motor is turning, something is stripped out. Im not sure about these trucks, but on my '90 Tbird, it had a safety type thing in the motor that was these little plastic pucks so when you got your hand stuck in the window it wouldnt chop it off. mine died and i replaced them with some metal bits i found.

I guess jackblotto must be "blotto" or "dp for" dead person?
Never gave update.

Updates help everyone here. However, some could care less.

this is my guess, probably the motor. if you dont want to buy one we always cut the thread end of a valve stem with the cap on and replace those plastic pieces. The last one i done of my own was on my 89 and that was 4 years ago. good luck !

so it does go up and down slowly?? If not, pull the door panel off and remove the connector for the motor, and place your test light or volt meter between the pins on the connector. Now push the switch, you should get roughly 12 volts going up and -12 volts going down. If you don't get voltage then I would test the switches from there. The passanger side switch won't work if you have the driver side switch removed.

Ok, here's an update. My windows were still making noises, but the window's wouldn't budge w/o me assisting them. Anyways, I took out the passengers side motor last night, opened it up to check the 3 Cylinder Bushings and all I could find was about 1000 little pieces of them. So, I got on ebay, and found the bushings, and got 2 sets, one for each window and it came out to just under 12$, and that's including shipping. I can't wait for these things to get here, I wan't my window's back!
