9mm wires

I'm not grasping the concept of larger plug wires helping much with performance.
I'm getting ready to order new plug wires, currently I have 8.8 Accels, I was suggested by a member from a different site to go with 9mms....now I didn't even notice a performance increase going to the 8.8mms so what I don't understand is why everyone runs such large plug wires when the stock electronics would only allow so much anyways

You will notice zero performance gain by going to 9mm wires. Everybody has this crazy idea that bigger plug wires will give them a noticable power increase. A bigger wire usually just has more insulation around the core; which is good if you are running a super hot ignition, or if the wires are close to headers, ect. With a stock ignition 8mm wires would probably do you just fine. One thing I do like about big plug wires is that they look awesome. Any good quality wire will probably do you just fine.

yep, they look cool and thats about it. I have the Ford Racing 9mm wires and didnt notice a thing different performance wise over the cheapo parts store 7mm wires that were on it before.

If you notice a performance increase by switching to larger wires, one of three things happened:

1) One or more of your old wires was bad, in which case any new set of wires would have fixed it.

2) You ziptied your plug wires together because you thought it looked cool, but all you really accomplished was making it easier to have a crossfire condition. Thicker insulation helps prevent this from happening.

3) You're drunk.

Take care,
~Chris
