clutch replacement

I have a 1988 f150 4x4 supercab that I need to replace the clutch on. My Haynes manual says I need to remove the transfer case and then the five speed. I am wondering there is enough clearance to slide the transmission and transfer case back far enough to R & R the flywheel and clutch.

Not unless you want to cut a hole on the floor. The shifter tower will hit the floor before you have enough room. Been there-Tried that. Trust me - just drop it all the way down.

Thanks, I figured that was the case. The truck also has the slave cylinder mounted inside the bell housing. When I disconnect the line do I need to plug it to prevent draining the master cylinder, or does it make any difference when I go to bleed the new slave cylinder.

Thanks

no, it has a coupler in there so no fluid will leak out. However, most manuals say you will not have to blead the slave, but this just isn't the case. I havn't met anyone who has disconnected this line but has not needed to blead it a little bit at least. Mine too FOREVER. Probably the most agrivating part of the whole ordeal.

I replaced my clutch without dropping the tranny and tcase, just kinda slid it back, i dont rememer for sure how we did it, but looking back it would have been easier to just drop it.
