In the 16s
In the 16s
Well I went to the track on Wednesday and am just getting around to posting my times. Well the temp was 91 and the humidty was at 86%. I made 7 passes, and my 2nd one was the best. I found that manually shifting I get my best times, but I am not consistant enough manually shifting, so I will have to get my chip setup better. Like my truck does the 2-3 shift at 4200rpms and that is well before my peak hp wich on the dyno was around 4600, so I was bringing it up close to that (according to the factory tach) I was shifting at about 4900. On 2 of my runs I hit the rev limiter on the 1-2 upshift, because the rpms are going up so fast in 1st and when I shift, it still takes a little bit of time before it shifts and thats when Id hit the limiter, but I still ran 16.9s on those runs. The truck did well I think and I was tearing up the V-6 Stangs (through the 1/8 lol) I raced 3 of them and they all ran 16.6s-16.8s, and I ran an 03 Cobra and the chick driving it spanked me bad lol she ran a 13.3@109 Well I had alot of fun and I think the headers that I have on the way will help with my top end some. The truck pulls hard through 1st and 2nd, but then I hit 3rd and its like I'm just cruising and thats where everything catches me or pulls on me. The truck was launching well and with the stall converter, the second I got off the brake and mashed the gas it would flash up to 2200 and I was gone, the rpms do go kinda slow between 2-3k, but after 3 they race up, I dont know why it does this, it seems like a flat part i nthe powerband, but it still pulls hard, but if you watch the tach the rpms climb faster from 3-5 than they do from 2-3...does anyone have any ideas what this is? I think it might be that it just is hard to get the 5000# brick moving, and once it does, then it just pulls hard. Well this was my best run, and I think I could have done better, but I need to let it cool down more, but I just get too anxious lol. Tell me what yall think:
60 - 2.311
330 - 6.865
1.8 - 10.653
MPH - 65.05
1000 - 13.955
1/4 - 16.803
MPH - 78.80
I was so close to a 16.7xx but thats for another day lol. In the winter Icant wait to see what it runs, but Ill have mroe mods then, and I guess I will be gunning for the 15s then. Weather permitting, I should be at the track not next Wed, but the next to see what I can do. I'll be there next Wed, but I figured I'll let the truck rest for a week. I am hooked on the strip, it is so much fun!!!
After my first run where I hit the rev limited and ran a 16.9, the guy in a 2002 V-6 Stang that I raced pulled up and was talking to me saying how hard I pulled off the line and through 1st and 2nd, but then how he caught me, but he was cool! I ran 1 - 16.8 5 - 16.9s and 1 - 17.0 (stalled it up to test the launch and spun really bad) So the truck runs very consistent, its just me, I cant shift the same everytime...thus the different times. Tell me what yall think, I am happy, especially running in the Louisiana heat!

I don't understand how the gears and the LS only made a 0.1 difference in your short time. When you launch hard, you say you're seeing too much wheelspin? Time for a traction device. That should let yo pick up another 1/10 or so. Gains in the 60 foot time ususlly multiply throughout the 1/4.
No I am not spinning at all, I am hooking up good. But when I ran that 17.1 w/ 2.4 60ft it was like 60 degrees outside so that is alot better than the 90s I have been running in lately
Call Superchip about reprogramming your chip to raise the WOT shift point to 4600. They should be willing to do it for a moderate fee with a 2 day FedEx assisted turnaround. That will probably trim another 1/10 or so off your times and since you'll be able to let the truck shift for itself, you'll be much more consistent as well.
What pressures are you running in your tires? At the strip, pump the fronts up to whatever max pressure is listed on the sidewall and drop your rears to 30 PSI. You'll launch harder and run faster with less rolling resistance in the front Do NOT drive it on the street that way, it'll be dangerously tail happy and you'll burn up your tires in a very few miles.

Hey, thats great stuff. Have you ever timed your 0-60mph? I have no acess to a track so im limited to the basics. I suppose I could mark off a 1/4 mile on one of our rural roads but its still not the same.
There really isn't to many people with hoped up older fords around here to compare mine too. To tell you the truth, I havn't even timed my truck yet with the 302. All's I know is it's damn slow.
HOWEVER, I just got the new roller cam installed in my 351, and the trucks going to the shop tommorrow (hopefully), so I shall know real sudden like what this 351 is all about. I am thinking the local boys with the 350 vortec's may be in trouble.
