Installed Homemade FIPK!!

Hey Pre's--
Well I got around to installing my homemade FIPK last night! I can't believe how loud this sucker is!! When I first started up the truck a big ol' whoosh (still had the hood open)! I can tell the engine was really starving with the stock setup. When cruising around I can hardly hear it but when going slow (15-20mph) I can hear it sucking. I haven't driven it around a whole lot since I put it in, but I can notice a slight improvement in low-end and a nice increase in mid-range. Also my exhaust has a deeper tone too. Anyway, here's a pic.

Thats what I did to, only I used 2 cones. I recently took mine off to clean the engine bay and clean and re-oil the filters. I noticed my engine isn't as fun in stock-box trim

Tomorrow the cones back on along with new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. If I feel ambitious I snap a couple pics of my clean engine, I get a woody everytime I look in there.lol

Ray,
Ask the other Ray (macgyver) about his homemade cold air ram. Something to consider.

How do you like your 3" lift so far? Looks perfect. Do your 33's rub at all?

looks good, I have the same thing on my truck (460) and it sounds like a turbo at mid to high rpms. I want to change it over to mostly pvc tubes with somesort of flexable yet smooth hose on it to compinsate for engine rock. My set-up has a brace to the fender pinch weld right above it. It really makes it stout.

Its really easy. Just bag your exposed filter(s) if you have an exposed one. Then I squirt SImple Green or any other all purpuse cleaner all over everything, then hose it all down. Most of the nastyness is just dust and rinses away with water, the Simple green helps with the rest of gunk. Sometimes I use shop air to dry everything but usually a good warm drive does the same thing.

I do this process everyday at work on Saturns that I do tune-ups on, customers love it. I do it to my engine about three times a year.

ive wanted to do this to my engine for a while, but im always afraid i will mess up some electrical connection. so you just cover up the filter? what about the alternator? i also have a lot of wiring around the firewall on the driver's side, should i cover that up too?

Nope, that stuff gets wet when it rains. All electrical connectors are weather tight. We all do it at work a few times a day and never have problems. Some of the guys prefer to do it when the engine is running, I've found it really doesn't matter. I like to do it when the engine is warm.

If you've ever gone to look at used cars/trucks at a dealer you'll see their car engine depts are spotless. This is how they do it. Some of the recon guys even use armor-all on the hoses and plastic. Thats alittle extreme for me But it looks great when the armor-all is wiped down after its applied.

Yeah I been meaning to clean mine for a while now, but I always put it off. My dad cleans his the same way... spray on the simple green, let it sit for a couple minutes and hit it lightly with the pressure washer. Looks great afterwards.

Beautiful intake inski21 From the looks of your hoses you originally bought the whole K&N FIPK.

This weekend I was getting back to summer mode, so I was goofing around with the hoses. Check out the Octopus Intake

I didn't see a reply about the 3" lift and 33" tires. I just thought I'd note that I have a 3" lift, just installed 33" BFG KOs two weeks ago and haven't had a problem rubbing. I did trim about an inch off the lower corners of the bumper, but I don't even know if that was necessary. It was just easy and I was able to do it so you can't even notice.

The lift was on the truck when I bought it. The 33s fit nicely in there and I think I can probably fit some 35s in there if I wanted but my stock gearing wouldn't pull them so well.
