Ultimate Air Intake Setup

Well I didn't like my original air intake setup, because the adapter I used ot bolt fro mthe MAF to the filter was 1/2" smaller than the inlet on the MAF sensor, so I was restricting alot of air. Well I never liked the K&N and it is too expensive for the very little you get so this is what I made, but sorry guys this is only for the trucks with Mass Air.

I got a Billet Aluminum MAF to filter adapter. BTW I found out that the MAF on our trucks is 70mm (Alot of research to find this out so thank me ) Then I got an S&B filter that has a 9" filter element with the powerstack entry, meaning it can suck air through the front also. The Adapter that I got has a built in Venturi shape, which is the same science that is used in the MAF itself. All it is is that the MAF is bigger at the front than it is at the back, and this cone shape speeds up the air velocity. The adapter that I got has the same thing in it, so that is even more space for the velocity to build up. Then I made two brackets ot hold it up. Both I made out of a sheet of 1/8" steel and I cut it, grinded it, and shaped it. One goes from the bottom of the MAS to the plastic fender, and the other bolts to the inside fender of the truck itself, and it is a U-shape that cradles the front of the filter, then at one end it has some bends so that it can bolt to the fender, and I taped a hole here and the one I drilled into the fender, so that I could put a bolt through it and secure it well. For right now I stuck the IAT sensor in a hole that is between the Radiator resevoir and the brakcet that holds it in place. It filts perfect in there, but I will relocate it later when I do stage 2. This setup is so much nicer than the K&N ones, and I have been planning it for about a month now. I had the adapter, but the filters are custom made in Canada, so it takes some time to make them and then time ti ship them, but it was worth the wait, it was just hard no posting and telling yall about it.

Stage 2 will include an aluminum box that will surround the filter to keep the engine bay heat out and then it will havea 3" brake duct hose running to the bottom of it, and right under the front spoiler o n the bumper, I will have a 9" long plastic brake duct that will catch the fresh air, and esentially the faster I go, the more cool air would be pushed by the filter. I am going to get a machine shop to make the box for me and everything, because I dont havea welder, although I want one bad!

Well this setup is ALOT louder than my old setup and the truck feels peppier when you hit it from like a 5-10mph roll. But as far as WOT, I need to compare it to my friends trucks to see if there was any real gain, but since I was blockign so much air to start off with, I think there will be.

I will get pics in a minute, I had typed up a long response earlier, then the power went out and I lost it, so i am just getting back to this. BTW the filters can come in Black, Red, Blue, Purple, and maybe another color and S&Bs are supposed to be better than K&N so I am really happy. Let me got take some pics.

Where did you get ahold of that MAF Meter-Cone adapter?

You should still re-use the stock snorkel to atleast help get some cooler air in but other then that it look's pretty good.

Where does it draw it's air from? Did you cut a hole in the fender?

Also, you might want to see if there's a way to build your box out of plastic rather than aluminum. Aluminum retains heat, whereas plastic reflects it. The metal box will actually create an oven effect around the filter.
